This week's question:

A long-awaited kiss, a surprise ending, a character's sudden decision… these are the moments that make us smile, gasp, and LOVE a book for the rest of our lives.  What is your favorite literary moment?

This time, I have a clear winner....

"I will take the Ring...though I do not know the way."  (Frodo Baggins, The Fellowship of the Ring)

I also love it when a plot twist takes me completely by surprise.  But this moment is absolutely my favorite.

How about you?

  1. Oh, good call Susan! When out of all the assembly, the least of them, a little hobbit named Frodo, steps forward and volunteers for the task. Yes, what a moment! :)

    1. And how he just *knows* that he has to be the one... Timeless. :)

  2. Definitely a great line. I've read FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, and that part is so gripping. I think Elijah Wood as Frodo really captured it in the movie, and the look on Ian McKellan's face as Gandalf is just so sad at that point. There is so much weight in those few words. Great choice :D

    1. They did do a very good job with this scene in the movie, for which I am thankful.

  3. I haven't read any of the LOTR, but I've watched the movies several times. Does that count? I get the feeling it doesn't, lol. But I do like this moment in the movies. Frodo is such a brave little hobbit.

  4. Good pick! Even at that moment, you feel the gravity of his choice, but you still can't imagine all the depths he's going to have to make it through before he can triumph.

  5. Ooh, good one! Like Jaime said, They do that part really well in the movie. You get the sense of what a huge job it is being undertaken by such a little person.

  6. Ahhh! How could I forget! This is an awesome pick! This line sold me on the entire book.
