The Voice of an Angel

An angel of music, that is.

He sang the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera 25th anniversary version at the Royal Albert Hall. I love The Phantom of the Opera (book, show, movie, spin-offs, bad sequels etc.) and Ramin Karimloo is my favorite Phantom.

My love of The Phantom of the Opera sort of hits me in waves. It goes away for a few months, maybe a year. I don't listen to the album, read the book or think about the story. Then I catch the smallest snatch of melody or see a masked face and suddenly I've listened to both the movie soundtrack and the original cast recording, seen the movie, watched the bad sequel in 20 minute segments on YouTube.

So, his new album just came out. I bought it. I've listened to it a few (ha!) times. And now I'm rereading The Phantom of the Opera.

This song is on the new album.

(It's from Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber's less popular sequel to The Phantom of the Opera )

And one more thing . . .

However, I think some of the impact of this reality check
is sort of lost
with Gerard Butler staring at you.

  1. I love Phantom too! It was the first proper musical I ever saw and it has stayed with me ever since. Would love to see it again sometime.

    1. I was lucky enough to see it twice when it came near where I live. I'm waiting anxiously for it to come through again.

  2. I scrapped up my money for months just to get tickets in the front row to see this when I was in college. The music eats into your soul and never really goes away.

    1. Wow. The front row. I bet that was unbelievable. When we went we brought binoculars and passed them back and forth between us.

  3. I love Phantom, stalker-y craziness and all. The music is lovely and the story just twisted enough that you can't help but cheer (a little bit) for the phantom, despite his actions *sigh*.

    1. I'm not sure "cheer" is exactly the way I feel about it, especially after reading the book. But I root for him, and my heart breaks for him. I've never thought much of Raoul.

    1. Um, well, though I haven't actually read the book myself, I know that it's a lot more violent than the musical version. They could be referring to that. Although, 1) we did not create this meme and 2) I am _not_ an expert on Phantom.

  6. I've yet to determine my feelings for "Love Never Dies" as a whole.

" 'Til I Hear You Sing", though... That just gives me ALL the feelings. All of them.
