Teaser Tuesday

I've never done Teaser Tuesday before, so here goes!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.  Anyone can play along!  Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS  (Make sure what you share doesn't give too much away--you don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title and author so other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!
I just started reading Beauty by Robin McKinley.  I know I'm supposed to pick a random page, but...I just love the way she ended this chapter:

beauty book
" 'Don't forget the tarry aprons you prophesied before,' Hope said, smiling.
No one mentioned goblins or dragons or magicians."
--Beauty pg 22

Beauty has never liked her nickname. She is thin and awkward; it is her two sisters who are the beautiful ones. But what she lacks in looks, she can perhaps make up for in courage.

When her father comes home with the tale of an enchanted castle in the forest and the terrible promise he had to make to the Beast who lives there, Beauty knows she must go to the castle, a prisoner of her own free will. Her father protests that he will not let her go, but she answers, "Cannot a Beast be tamed?"

Robin McKinley's beloved telling illuminates the unusual love story of a most unlikely couple: Beauty and the Beast.

I love how that cover matches our blog colors...  And you know what else matches our blog colors?  Christmas, which is this week's theme for Save-A-Word Saturday!  If you're a fan of memes and old words, stop by and join in the fun!

  3. To be honest, I had the hardest time getting into that book. Read it like, what, 5 years ago? But then that can be a matter of personal taste, right? Nice tease! :)

    1. I'm going to go with personal taste on this one, David. Labeling things as "boy books" or "girl books" is often unhelpful, but in this case, as far as I can tell, it seems like it's going to end up being a bit of a girl thing. ;)

    2. AAAAlll (okay, DRAGONHAVEN could sort of cross over) of Robin McKinley's books are girl books. She writes them that way on purpose. I believe it is something of a life philosophy for her. Bring on enameled, rose embossed bathtubs, and dresses that match the jewelry that match the towels.

  4. I haven't read Beauty yet. I saw it at the store the other day. Maybe I should read it. Maybe this is a sign. haha!
