Follow Friday

Feature and Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community

Q: Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate -- ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?

A: I can't remember having done this in the recent past.  I tend to be pretty unforgiving when it comes to not finishing books that don't grab me, so odds are if I start a book with a prejudice and it doesn't change my mind quickly, I'm not going to get anywhere.

That said, I read books for school all the time that make me groan when I see the cover.  Just yesterday I was slogging through Tacitus' history of Rome--and while it was long and a bit miserable, some parts were inspiring, exciting (the battle narratives!), and even funny.  Who knew?

  2. Unfortunately I have the habit of finishing every book I pick up so I've read a few that weren't for me. But since I follow through with every book it means I find a lot of great ones. & For each book I disliked I found something in it that has inspired me in some way so I can relate :P

    Great FF!!

  3. Yeah pretty much all the books in school I knew I would hate and did. The only exception was The Count of Monte Cristo! Still baffles me today that I loved it so much!

  5. I've had several I thought I would hate as I started but ended up loving. I've only ever quit reading one book and I won't name it lol. I try to get through them sometimes the endings pay off.

  7. I was always predisposed to hate required reading for school. I was completely shocked when I fell in love with some of them!

  9. I used to force myself to finish books that were boring me to tears, but I've given up on that. Now if I'm unsure of a book, I get it from the library first, then I don't have to feel bad if I drop it halfway through. Books for school are a whole other story. Not much choice there, I guess.

  10. I wish I was better at quitting books that just aren't grabbing me. I'm one of those people who really can't get over the time wasted getting even this far. (Never mind the fact that I'd be wasting that much more of my time if I continued reading it.) I put a book down recently partway in and I'm still irked that I didn't finish it. :/ Ah well.

    1. Oooh, that does sound frustrating. I have certain things like that that I just can't let go... But I bet you really broaden your reading experience by refusing to toss books away!

  11. Always read a book from cover to cover, even if I don't like them. Sometimes the last chapter is good, lol. Thanks for stopping by. Following you via GFC :)
