The Autobiography of Jane Eyre

Kiss Lizzie DarcyAs many of you are acutely aware, the much-beloved Lizzie Bennet Diaries arrived at their slightly strange but mostly inevitable conclusion a few weeks ago. As someone who spent much of the semester surviving Tuesday and Wednesday so I could achieve Thursday and surviving the rest of the week so I could achieve Monday* I have felt their lack. My life is directionless since Lizzie Bennet once again found her true love.** I am adrift.

In hopes of finding a new purpose for myself, I have watched the first few Sanditon videos. Hey, I thought, it's still Austen, it's by the same people, and it features Gigi Darcy. Purpose! YAAAAY!

I must confess, I*** found it extremely disappointing. Here I wander, still without a North Star to guide me and get me through the week.

But this story has a happy ending.

While was I puttering around YouTube in a grey haze of sorrow, loneliness, and dejection, weeping quietly to myself and eating cake, I discovered something . . . wonderful.

A modernization of Jane Eyre in the style of the Lizzie Bennet Diaries.

I would even argue that it is better than the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Blasphemy, I know, but the girl who plays Jane Eyre really is the better actress. We have yet to clearly see Rochester's face, but I am extremely hopeful.

They are on their tenth episode and it airs every Wednesday at 9:00 AM.

And you don't want to be like this guy . . .

darcy fun

So, go forth and rejoice and watch The Autobiography of Jane Eyre.

Also, today's episode was excellent. We met Mr. Rochester. Or rather, we met his colorful socks.

You're welcome.

* Monday and Wednesday were the days upon which the LBD were posted.

** Even though this time, instead of marrying him, she started a company to compete with his. It's so romantic I can barely contain myself. I bet their relationship is headed for nothing but bliss.

*** and apparently most of the internet based on their STEEP drop in viewership.

  1. I know I will enjoy this greatly as soon as I stop acting like Darcy in that meme...

  2. I'm very behind on the Lizzie Bennett Diaries. I should use them as a reward when I'm writing or something. I really need to check out The Autobiography of Jane Eyre. Thanks for pointing it out!

I believe it was actually Thursdays, and not Wednesdays, that LBD aired. I recall walking back from Anglo-Saxon and discussing the day's video.

And for some reason I am much too much amused by that Darcy meme. Crabbiness delights me.

  4. Oh! You loved the LBD too! It wasn't perfect, I can admit that. But oh my goodness, the last half had me hooked and I faithfully counted down to every Monday and Thursday at 9am. The first time in my whole life that I actually looked forward to Monday's! ;)

Yeah, I'll agree that Sanditon isn't striking things out of the park yet. But I'm hanging on, just hoping it's a slow beginning. I do like Clara though. And Gigi of course. So we'll see.

I'd heard of that Jane Eyre but haven't tried it yet. Thanks for reminding me! Since you give it such high praise, I'll certainly check it out. :)

    1. I find I like Jane much more than I ever liked Lizzie. Jane Eyre has always been much more self-aware than Lizzie Bennet.

    2. Such an understatement! It takes so little to be more self-aware then Lizzie Bennet

  6. Thanks for the enthusiastic show recommendations! I heard of Lizzie Bennet before, but have not watched it yet. I hope to soon, and to try Auto of Jane Eyre. Classic remakes are enjoyable to see and read. Its always heard to find what to watch after good show is over, like when I finished all the Buffy episodes, I had no idea what show could follow.

    1. ANGEL should of course follow Buffy. David Boreanaz. In. His. Very. Own. Show.

    2. YES! Actually, I started watching Angel first, and then got into Buffy to learn all the backstory. But I like Angel best. Like you said, David Boreanaz. In. His. Very. Own. Show. Bliss!!!
